Description

Birmingham based Contemporary Folk and Roots night showcasing the next generation of breakthrough artists from the new British Folk Scene.

NATC offers a platform for some of the UKs most innovative, honest songwriters and dynamic interpreters of traditional song, bringing the breakthrough names of the modern underground scene to an attentive, artist focussed environment.

David Campbell

David Campbell may be the British folk scene's best-kept secret. His three brothers are much better known, for their involvement in reggae music. David's grandparents were fine traditional singers from the ballad-rich north-east of Scotland. His father was the influential folksong revivalist and songwriter Ian Campbell, whose group hosted the biggest folk club in Europe for many years, and it was there that David, in his teens, began singing in public.

His dazzlingly eclectic repertoire encompasses all the song traditions of the British isles and north America, more or less elderly pop songs, and more recent items by Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Leon Rosselson, Richard Thompson and Steve Tilston, as well as his own selection from his father's vast songbook.Master of the unaccompanied (don't say 'a cappella'!) singing tradition in which he was raised, David also accompanies himself, usually on five-string banjo (which he frails in the old-time manner) or ukulele.

Amit Dattani

The prolific Amit Dattani is a singer songwriter known for his unique brand of roots-driven guitar, striking lyrical originality and entertaining anecdotes. Behind his raconteur spirit lies superb musicianship, nimble finger-picking and a versatility which has garnered a strong reputation on the live circuit, with over ten years performing across the UK and Europe under his belt.
