8.00pm 1000 Trades Christine Tobin

Christine has long been associated with transforming other writers work into jazz lyrics and this performance will feature jazz arrangements of the writings of: W B Yeats; Leonard Cohen and now Herman Melville and William Morris.


Sunday 5th November 2017

12.30pm Blue Orange Theatre - Almagro Ensemble

The Almagro Ensemble is an exciting new group comprising some of the most recognised players and composers from the European jazz, classical and tango worlds. The group aims to present some of the new innovations in tango from Argentina to a European audience, commission new works from Argentine composers and compose brand new music exploring the space between the tango, jazz and contemporary classical worlds, as well as developing collaborations with dancers and choreographers.

4.30pm Blue Orange Theatre -  Jazzolea

This presentation is led by Esther Weekes and she is part of this jazz flamenco group.  She is both a singer and dancer supported by a range of authentic Flamenco musicians.  The group activity mix the singing, dancing into jazz rhythms - both genre having improvisation at their heart.

8.00pm Blue Orange Theatre - Huw Warren: Dylan Thomas - Do Not Go Gentle

Swansea born composer Huw Warren presents a new jazz suite based on the poetry of Dylan Thomas. The project is the result of Warren's lifelong interest in Thomas' poetry, and reflects the inherent South Walian musicality of the words.

Workshops Sunday 5th November

11.00am Blue Orange Studio - Flamenco Workshop
This first of two Workshops by top Flamenco Dancer Lourdes Fernandez and Percussionist Demi Garcia Sabat will mix traditional and contemporary dance.  They will use many different rhythms and styles to demonstrate that make up Flamenco performance today.  They will also have conversations with the workshop attendees on the work, its techniques and history.

2.30pm Blue Orange Studio - Traditional Carnatic Song Workshop & Performance

This song quartet is the latest innovation from Asaf Sirkis. Known for his use of world rhythms and eclectic instruments, has found a new passion for this traditional Indian song form - Carnatic. The programme for the set will be a workshop and discussion on the subject f Carnatic to be followed by a performance.

6.30pm Blue Orange Studio - Flamenco Percussion Workshop
An introduction to Flamenco Rhythms, Cajon percussion Techniques and hand Clapping.  This will be a participation session were attendees of the workshop can have a go, or just listen and watch.  Demonstrated by the UK's top two Flamenco Workshop Leaders.
