There’s no doubt in my mind that Griminal is one of those people” – Darren Platt – C.E.O of 360 Record. As an 11 year old school boy growing up in East London, Joshua Ramsay was listening to the big names on the underground Grime scene like any other kid his age. But little did he realize that it was this period of his life that was to be such a massive influence on his future career. Watching his older brother, Mac 10, being picked up from his house by the people he listened to on his i-pod would fill Joshua with excitement. He would watch from the bedroom window as they all jumped in the car to go to radio shows and P.A’s. Ghetto, Kano and Marcus Nasty would regularly be at his house with his brother and discussions of music, studio, events and radio shows would cause an electric atmosphere throughout every room, and especially through Joshua. It was at this point that Joshua knew he HAD to be involved, this is what he wanted to do and he would stop at nothing to get it. As Joshua started at secondary school, people soon became aware of who his older brother was. This gave Joshua instant credibility but also gave him added pressure; the question on everyone’s lips was whether he would be as musically talented as his brother? A question that would years later would be answered. Not only was Joshua surrounded by music at home but at school too. His school was a breeding ground for emcees, the now number one selling artist, Tinchy Stryder was in the last year of school when Joshua was in his first year. Joshua looked on with intrigue as the budding emcees would battle in the playground and he would imagine himself doing the same thing. This intrigue turned to ambition as he started to ‘spit’ other peoples lyrics which fast gave him the confidence to start making up his own lyrics and trying them out in his own circles. With music being so prevalent in so many East London homes, it wasn’t long before he hooked up with some friends who had homemade studios in their bedrooms. It wasn’t the best equipment in the world and it didn’t record the best sound but it did the trick and Joshua was soon able to listen to his own music thanks to it. While listening to his new recordings, Joshua’s brother walked in and asked who’s voice it was coming over the speakers, it was to his amazement that it was Joshua himself! Within an instant his brother’s phone was out and Joshua was booked onto do a set with some older emcees on Déjà Vu Radio. Three years later and Joshua was no more, it was all about Griminal. All the emcees knew his name and all the kids in first year looked up to him for inspiration, just as he had done with his peers. Griminal was getting picked up from home to take part in radio shows, video shoots, studio sessions and shows. Something he used to dream of doing was now a reality. At the age of 14, Griminal appeared in his first video, ‘Girls Luv Nasty’ which had nationwide coverage thanks to music TV stations such as Channel U and MTV Base. School would never be the same again, nobody at his school had ever been ‘famous’ at such a young age and he found himself being in the limelight as he had wanted. In the meantime, Griminal was determined to work hard to progress down the musical path. Ghetts would arrive to take him to pirate radio station, F Radio which went out across the nation. The likes of Ghetts, Devlin, Scorcher and Wretch 32 were all part of the emcee elite that would take over the air waves and soon it became apparent that it wasn’t just school and London that were talking about Griminal. In 2008 Ghetts and Griminal recorded a track ‘Don’t Phone Me’. They had a video produced and launched on Channel AKA (formerly Channel U) and MTV Base. The audiences went crazy and were requesting the video to played constantly. It was at this point that the emcee had a sudden influx of new fans from the female population. Proving to be quite a hit with the ladies, Griminal soon found himself being booked up for even more P.A’s and shows. The buzz continued to grow around Griminal and industry moguls were beginning to pay some serious attention. It was in 2008 after the success of ‘Don’t Phone Me’ that friend and artist manager, Colin Batsa spoke seriously with Griminal about his future. As fate would have it, Colin was in the process of setting up a record label with another industry mogul, Darren Platt. 360 Records was born and Griminal was signed up straight away. Batsa and Platt began to work out the course they would take with Griminal and video shoots were immediately lined up, studio sessions were booked and P.A’s came flooding in from both the UK and abroad. Griminal was travelling to Cyprus, Ayia Napa and Germany to entertain his fans. In amongst all of this, top UK artist Wiley put together a group of the top 10 emcees in the UK to record a track and video. ‘She Likes To’ featured some of the greatest emcees the UK has seen including, Wiley himself, Ghetts, J2K, Scorcher, Chipmunk, Bashy, Wrigley & Wretch 32. Griminal couldn’t believe one of his biggest inspirations was asking him to be involved in a project and classing him as one of the top emcees in the country. The video clocked up over ½ million views on youtube and stayed in the urban charts for over two months. Back with 360 Records and Griminal was given beat after beat to work with. Fresh sounds were explored and production levels had risen as the investment from the label helped to open new doors for the artist. It was at this point that the track ‘Invincible’ came crashing out of the studio on to the desks of Platt & Batsa. As soon as they heard the track they organised a video shoot. Weeks later and the video was on TV’s nationwide. The video was snapped up by AKA, MTV Base and Flava and everyday of its first week on YouTube, it was in the ‘MOST VIEWED’ section. The video has now reached figures of nearly one million views. The video created interest from major record labels, commercial TV and radio stations and Griminal soon begun to hear himself on the BBC networks, a far cry from the pirate radio stations he started with. Now in 2010 Griminal has been named as one of the ‘ones to watch’by the industry insiders. BBC 1Xtra have added his tracks to their playlist and have deemed him as one of the main sounds of 2010. The national and commercial support is helping to increase Griminal’s fan base and recognition but Griminal still feels there is a mountain to climb. “This is just the start and 2010 is an opportunity for me. There is always more I can give and there’s so much more to achieve. I have a lot of hard work ahead of me and seeing other people’s success just makes me even more determine GRIMINAL TRILLA JERMAINE TRILLOSKI BROTHERHOOD L RAZE GRIMINAL PERFORMING LIVE IN COVENTRY FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME PERF:''INVINCIBLE'' + ''DONT PHONE ME'' TRILLA JERMAINE TRILLOSKI PERFORMING ''ETAP'' + ''WHO ARE YA'' ALSO A SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE FROM BROTHERHOOD PERFORMING FROM THEIR LATEST ALBUM DJS DJ LIONHEART DJ MARCUS W DJ BALLER B DJ STEVIE B ★▬►THE VENUE ◄▬★ CLUB ICE ONE OF THE BIGGEST VENUES IN COVENTRY ★▬►THE TIME ◄▬★ 8PM - 1AM ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ★▬►THE ADMISSION ◄▬★ TICKETS £8.50 [Available from any ticketsellers listed further down] £10 VIP(includes que jump+vip area) £12 VIP GOLD(includes que jump+vip area+meet&greet with artists+free giveaways) - M.O.T.D ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ★▬►DRESS CODE ◄▬★ STRICTLY SMART - NO CAPS - NO HOODS - NO SPORTSWEAR TIKCETS TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED ONLINE FROM WWW.THETICKETSELLERS.CO.UK COVENTRY RENEGADE RECORDS:: 02476 551 055 NEW LICK BARBERS 07984 707 273 SHAH PAN HOUSE 0247 665 277 NORTHAMPTON SHOP SIDEWINDER 01604 250 114 BIRMINGHAM SUMMIT RECORDS 0121 455 8844 NOTTINGHAM OMG RECORDS 01159 243 888 DERBY KRISHNA 01332 766 983 FOR TICKETS - ROSHAN - FOXFORD SCHOOL COVENTRY 07906580650 FOR TICKETS - T-FRESH 07721768595 LORSWOOD BOYS SCHOOL -BIRMINGHAM SHANNON - 07528580324 - FB- SHANNON AYDEN GALLAGHER!
