Penny Dreadful Productions was set up in 2003 to tell the fascinating true stories of ordinary people who have been dealt a raw deal by history: the famously forgotten. Our first full length play, The Bitches Ball, was inspired by Mary Robinson, a high-flying 18th century courtesan, actress, and acclaimed and prolific poet, shunned by society following an affair with the future George IV. Directed by Mick Barnfather, it toured nationally to critical acclaim in 2007. The Company is committed to producing exciting new ensemble theatre, with a special commitment to innovation and accessibility; A proportion of all performances will be for audiences who have the closest links with the characters and stories portrayed. We operate a collaborative cross disciplinary structure, where artists and production crew are involved at all stages of the creative process, and working with as wide a range of professional artists as possible.
